What equipment should you take on a photo trip?

13 Jan 2025 | Photo Gear

THE QUESTION everyone’s asking!

What should you take with you on a photo trip?

It’s not easy to find the right balance between taking all the necessary equipment with you, not forgetting to double up on ‘critical’ equipment, and staying in the airlines’ ‘good graces’ in terms of weight and volume! Your back will also thank you when you go on longer tours.

Organising your flights

Prepare your luggage according to the following points:

  • Fragile and/or essential equipment must be taken in the cabin. Beware of weight limits, depending on the airline!
  • Emergency equipment (2nd case, non-essential lenses and accessories, etc.) can be put in the hold, in a well-padded bag and in the middle of your clothes to limit shocks!
  • ALL lithium batteries must be taken in the cabin. Reduce the charge to 30-50% and put them in a fireproof bag!
  • For reasons of space and weight, you can put your tripod in the hold.
  • Make sure that your baggage, especially cabin baggage, does not exceed the maximum dimensions imposed by the airline.
